Greetings Friends!
I don’t have much to say to you all today. As I continue to bear witness to what is unfolding here in the United States, I honestly find myself heeding a call to go inward.
I am attempting more and more to disconnect from my terrible habit of doom scrolling.
I am noticing that it doesn’t take much to hook my own inner Mussalina and before I know it I find myself in a rage induced comment battle with a stranger on the internet which is a wild waste of my precious life force that I’m pretty sure old La Befana would want me to protect.
The world is burning, militarization is on the rise AND people are still falling in love. I’m holding both truths.
Today is Dia Dos Namorados in Brazil.
Unlike many of us who may celebrate on February 14th over in Brazil it’s celebrated today on the eve of Saint Anthony’s Day who is recognized for blessing young couples with happy and prosperous marriages.
So in honor of that I figured I’d revisit an old conversation I had with Brazilian singer & songwriter Mariana Barcellos
Ep.43 Embracing Love in All Its Forms with Mariana Barcellos
Yesterday we celebrated Valentine’s Day and love in all of its beautiful manifestations whether it's romantic, platonic, or the love we hold for ourselves and the world around us.
Key insights include:
- Exploring the Depths of Love: Mariana Barcellos unveils her latest pair of love songs, capturing the essence of human and heavenly love. Her work, inspired by her personal journey and experiences, offers a fresh, compelling perspective on the varied dimensions love encompasses.
- The Ocean's Melody in Healing and Self-Discovery: Mariana reflects on her own album "Contos do Mar," which pays homage to the ocean as a source of healing and a path to finding oneself. She shares her journey through music and how it’s interlaced with her evolving understanding of love and her identity as a singer-songwriter.
- The Soundtrack to Our Soul's Journey: The episode beautifully ties together music, love, self-reflection, and the larger love story of humanity. Mariana emphasizes the substantial role of contemplation and balance in love, mirroring the natural cycles of the sun and moon.
Much love and many blessings! From La Befana’s Table to yours!
I love this and am so glad you put it out there. We do, indeed, need more love songs. More romance in its broadest sense - beauty, art, love, play, romanticism (without getting caught in fantasy). It can feel strange to promote such things in this difficult time but we need it too.
I sometimes think of the way jazz--with all its beauty, romance, and whispering of a much better world, carried people through WWII. What part did jazz play in winning that war? Could we ever really measure its impact?
I hope you find the direction you need with your journeys inward (and I'm sure you will, amica)
